Exterior
- Remove all vehicles from the driveway, and don't park in front of the house
- Close the garage doors
- Remove trash cans, garden tools, hoses, and sprinklers from view
- Sweep or blow off driveways, decks, patios, and sidewalks
- In season, put up deck/patio umbrellas (if it's not too windy) and remove grill covers, storing them out of sight
- Set all window blinds to the same height — we'll open and close them as needed
- Mow the lawn, clear yard debris, and store the mower out of sight
- Trim bushes and trees for a clear view of the house
- Enhance curb appeal with pots of greenery or fresh flowers
Interior
- Make sure all lights work, and turn ceiling fans OFF before the shoot
- Make beds fresh, wrinkle-free, and straight
- Clear kitchen and bathroom countertops — tissue boxes, soap, paper-towel rolls
- A bowl of apples, oranges, or lemons adds a nice touch of color to a kitchen counter
- Remove notes, photos, and magnets from the fridge and bulletin boards
- Put away signs of housework — buckets, mops, vacuums, sponges, and cloths
- Hide the kitchen trash can (the garage is a good temporary spot)
- Store pet beds, bowls, and toys out of sight, and secure pets
- Remove newspapers, magazine stacks, and all TV/video remotes
- Clean windows and mirrors streak-free; vacuum carpets and polish wood floors
- Minimize visible wires, and put away clocks and phones
The goal: de-clutter and de-personalize so buyers can picture themselves living there. Open, bright, and move-in ready always photographs best.
